The Birch Trees

A birch tree was the second tree I ever made. Since going to fairs and displaying my work in public, the birch trees have been the most popular. You may notice I tend to give them somewhat Scandinavian names, as I associate birch trees with the more northern parts of the midwest where many Scandinavian immigrants made their home back in the day.

A river birch. She was based on a tree my grandfather salvaged and planted in his daughter's yard. It was a gift for my aunt when she had to move to a new house and leave the tree behind, many years after his passing.

She was a commission for someone who saw Ingrid and fell in love. Since I can't make duplicates, I offered to make Ingrid's cousin.
